Celebratory and Invitational Message from Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin issued a celebratory message on the occasion of World Chess Day, July 20th. In her message, she also invited all chess enthusiasts to the Gazi Open International Chess Tournament, to be held in Gaziantep — a city renowned for its history, culture, sports, civilization, and gastronomy.
 
KYK Dormitory Accommodation Announcement
1st Gazi Open International Chess Tournament accommodation will be provided at Gaziantep Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK) dormitories for players, parents, and trainers participating from different provinces, limited to a specific quota.

Players and trainers can stay in the dormitories free of charge, while parents can stay for a daily fee of 80₺. In the event of any price changes during the summer period in accordance with KYK regulations, the updated fees will apply. Payments will be made online by credit card at kyk.ziraatbank.com.tr based on the number of days of stay, after the placements in the dormitories are completed.

Accommodation
Conditions
 Accommodation at KYK dormitories is only available for players, parents (mother, father, or legal guardian) of players under the age of 18, and trainers. Applying for accommodation does not automatically mean you are registered for the tournament. Players requesting accommodation must first be registered for the tournament.

 Dormitory buildings for female and male players will be separate. The dormitory buildings to be used for accommodation will be announced separately on our website.

Female players under the age of 18 can only stay in the dormitory designated for women with their female companions (mother or female guardian), and male players under the age of 18 can only stay in the dormitory designated for men with their male companions (father or male guardian). Female players cannot stay with male parents, and male players cannot stay with female parents.

 Accommodations in the dormitories will be in 4-person and 6-person rooms, and placements will be made by the dormitory management based on the order of application.

 Since it is the summer period, no food service will be provided in the dormitories. Participants will meet their food needs from outside on their own.

❻ Participants are required to bring all basic and personal items they will need during their stay (towels, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, slippers, etc.) with them.

There is no air conditioning in the dormitory rooms.

 Due to their physical structure, the dormitory buildings are not suitable for the accommodation of disabled players.

❾ It is prohibited to cook or use electrical appliances such as heaters, irons, etc., in the rooms and common areas of the dormitories.

Application and Dates

 Those who wish to stay in the dormitories can submit a request by filling out the application form below:

 Applications must be submitted no later than August 26, 2026. Requests received after this date will not be evaluated. If the quota allocated for the dormitories is filled before the deadline, the online application will automatically close and no new applications will be accepted.

 Check-ins to the dormitories can be made on August 30, 2026, at the earliest.


 
Registration Opens for Gazi Open Chess Tournament
WhatsApp Image 2026-07-07 at 00.39.22Registration is now open for the 1st Gazi Open International Chess Tournament, organized in cooperation with our Federation and the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality.

Taking place from August 31 to September 6, 2026, at the Gaziantep Kamil Ocak Indoor Sports Hall, the tournament will bring together accomplished chess players from Turkey and around the world.

Masters and rising young talents alike will compete to become winners amid Gaziantep's unique atmosphere—a city renowned for its thousands of years of history, unparalleled cultural heritage, world-famous cuisine, and warm hospitality.

Applications for players wishing to take part opened on July 7, 2026, at 12:30 PM, and registration will close on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

A total of 1,500,000 TL in cash prizes will be awarded to prizewinners across all categories.
